Since late 2008 Free (1) offers a new platform of blogs to its users. It is powered by Dotclear 2, a well-known solution of the French users. Free joins the myriad of hand-key solutions to manage its online blogs. Like his colleagues - Tumblr or Blogger or Skyblog or canalblog or Overblog or Centerblog or Unblog or EklaBlog or ... - an online solution has many advantages. Firstly there is no need to install something so that they avoid the situation of "putting fingers in the grease". Moreover updates of the software solution are performed by the host. The downside is obviously that we don't have a total control over everything as we will report back.

Jimdo is an online website creation tool very easy to use. Add a few modules to your website (texts, image galleries, videos, widgets, etc.), choose a design in the Jimdo design library or create your own in a few cliks ! Over 2 millions webmasters already use the free version of Jimdo ! An impressive number for this newcomer on the web scene.
The design editor is a simple and efficient menu where you choose a basic template and variants on its style. It is not revolutionary but this one is truly well-done. The amount of templates is quite good but the pro version has many more. For those who like to customize every detail, you also get direct access to the html and the css. It's a good occasion to use Kameleoon to customize your design without delving into the code, which is exactly what Jimdo is all about.
What you get to having to choose a CMS for your next (or your first) web site, check this one out. |
