Want to know more about Web Design For All? You're at the right place! Here you'll find all information on this site's main objectives, and who is behind all the articles. Our goals in creating this site Wd4all.com has a very simple ambition: help newcomers to build their own websites and gather online communities. We use the term "website" in the broadest sense here: it is very different to setup a blog and gather readers, setup an e-commerce shop and gather buyers, or to setup a forum and gather fans of the same hobby. But whatever are your needs, we hope to be able to guide you so you can pick the right tools and solutions to achieve your goals. Our content is varied and covers a lots of subject: technical tools, useful online services, interactions with your customers or community, etc. However, as is obvious by the name we chose, our intent is to focus on a crucial aspect of web site building: the web design. The art of web design is to present your online content in the best way possible to your target audience. This general statement can be further subdivided into three subdivisions:
Of these three subdivisions, all are important. The last one is probably the hardest to get right, because it is where your uniqueness comes from. Who are we and what do we bring to the table? Of course, there are already hundreds of sites dealing with the topic of web-design. However, we think we can bring new content and useful information to what's already available on the Internet. This is because wd4all.com staff comes from the company developing Kameleoon, an online tool for authoring professional web designs. When we started on Kameleoon, our initial goal was to solve a very simple but painful problem: creating nice web designs is hard if you don't have a lot of technical knowledge on the relevant web technologies (mainly CSS and HTML). Image editing is accessible to anyone that needs it thanks to tools such as Picasa, the GIMP or Adobe Photoshop. However, the same is not true of web design. All the tools available are traditional offline applications such as Dreamweaver, that you must first install on your computer (after purchasing an expensive license). These applications were initially developed in the late 90s and are no longer adapted to the current needs of users, who do so much online directly with their browsers. We're in 2010, and people are setting up a new blog in 5 minutes on Blogger, picking up a template instantly, and start publishing their first article within one hour. They don't want to spend hours learning an offline HTML editor, creating a design, and finally uploading it via FTP to their servers only to find out it is not compatible with their online solution... Most people want to do everything with a (powerful, yet easy) web interface integrated directly into the services they know and use. That's with this in mind that we developed Kameleoon, to bring a powerful service into the hands of users that don't want to settle with a premade template, but don't want to deal with the technical complexity of CSS. Our editorial line Despite the fact that we're the creators of Kameleoon, we don't want wd4all.com to be a simple promotional site. We noticed that there was a lack of information about new web design methodologies, and that resources to setup an online site were not always presented in an way accessible to newcomers (especially for design guides and articles). We thus believe we can provide a fresh insight into the world of web design with wd4all.com, since we are very familiar with this domain and follow all new emerging technologies and software on the field (CSS 3, SVG, etc...). However, all content is presented with an objective and neutral perspective (even for our competitor's products, at least we'll try :). We're very fond of the "right tool for the job" philosophy anyway, so the right advice about which technical solution to choose would be very different for two different persons with their respective needs. We hope to provide you with enough information, reviews and comparisons to make informed choices. Lastly, a large part of our content deals with cultural tendencies and design techniques that may less appeal to the casual user, but will attract people with an interest in web design that extends beyond their simple needs for their own web space.
